HR 2589 / S 1197, the Huntington's Disease Parity Act of 2017, would waive the 24-month waiting period for Medicare eligibility for individuals disabled by Huntington’s disease. This bill is textually similar to HR 842 / S 968 (114th Congress) (SciPol brief available), although the current bill does not contain any language about updating the medical evaluation criteria for individuals with Huntington's disease applying for Social Security benefits.

HR 2589 was introduced in the House on May 22, 2017, and referred to the House Committee on Ways and Means on the same date.

S 1197 was introduced in the Senate on May 22, 2017.
